EVERYDAY IS A NEW YEAR...
People look at new years like its a
time for a fresh start and to make
significant changes in their lives.
Some sit down and make a list,
join a gym and many of us see in
the new year with some form of
celebration. And then January rolls
by and the euphoria of a fresh
start begins to fade. The list got
lost in the masses on the fridge
door or amongst the Christmas
debris in your hand bag. The gym
is too busy or the winter weather
means its just not worth the effort.
Every year millions of us repeat
those same excuses and commit to
the same cycle and to the same
grand finale...... Oh well I'll try
again next year, resolutions are
meant to be broken.
So what if we can break that
cycle? What if there is a simple
answer? It came to me when my
friend said he hated new
year. I got to thinking how can you
hate a day? After all its glory it is
just another day. Its starts at
midnight like all the others and
finishes at midnight like all the
others and it has twenty fours
hours in it.......like all other days.
there 7 of them in a week and 365
1/4 of them every year. You get
the picture.
Now that we have identified its
physical entity why is it that so
many of us only want to make
these resolutions on this 1 day? Its
no different from any other so why
cant we make these decisions on
any random day? The realisation is
WE CAN.
We can decide to make a change
in our lives if we choose, we can
spend time with our friends and
family, we can celebrate, we can do
that 1 little thing that's different,
we can start a new activity or
exercise more. We can do anything
we choose.
The most important thing is we
can do it any day and everyday!
We don't need to wait 365 1/4
days to make these commitments.
We don't need big ben to chime 12
to instigate resolutions. And if we
don't need these things to happen
then we don't need to give up on
ourselves. We don't need to get
1/4 of the way into the year and
cross off everything we haven't
done because everyday we can say
yes I've done that or today I'm
gunna do... today I will celebrate.
So if you make one resolution
make it this: Everyday is a New
Years Day!
